High praise for ‘transformational’ Springhill

on .

Springhill Care Group has been praised as a ‘transformational’ organisation which has an opportunity to lead the way in its sector by an independent assessor.

The group was recently visited by an assessor of the Investors in People (IIP) organisation as it looked to reaccredit the group with this prestigious quality mark.

After speaking with staff and measuring the performance of the organisation, including its three homes, against the IIP model, the group received an outstanding accolade from the assessor.

The assessor also reported that Springhill operates beyond continuous improvement, with a real focus on person-centred care and changing people’s lives. The IIP accreditation was renewed for the group.

Donna Briggs, Managing Director of Springhill Care Group, said: “This is a tremendous tribute to all our staff who strive to provide the highest standards of care every day, delivering the best possible services for the people they care for and support.

“It’s a fantastic accolade and I’d like to thank everyone involved – it’s such a glowing tribute and we should all be very proud of what we’ve achieved.”

Springhill duo scoop top award at North West Care Awards

on .

Care staff from two of Springhill Care Group’s companies have won a top industry award and will now go on to represent the North West at a national final.

The North West heats of the Great British Care Awards were held in Manchester, and in total 10 staff members from Springhill were finalists in a number of categories.

Ultimately, Jan Holt, nutrition advocate at Birch Green Care Home won the Nutrition and Hydration Award, and Vici Beardsworth, operations manager for Springhill’s supported living service, Affinity Supporting People, won the Front Line Leader award.

Now the pair will go on to the national Great British Care Awards, expected to be held in London next year.

Ken Nolan, chairman of Springhill Care Group, said: “Having so many members of staff shortlisted for categories in what are one of the industry’s most talked about awards was a tremendous recognition of the hard work that goes on across the group.

“Both Jan and Vici make such a difference to the lives of the people they care for, and were deserving winners. I’m sure everyone at Springhill would join me in congratulating them and wishing them all the best for the national awards.”

Selena Scales the Heights for Charity

on .

The wife of a resident at a nursing home in Bristol, recently raised money for the brain charity which has supported her husband and family.

Selena Power climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing mountain in the world, raising funds for the charity Hammer Out, based at Thornbury.

In November 2007, Selena’s husband Rob was diagnosed with Gliomatosis Cerebri, a rare form of brain cancer for which there is no treatment or cure.

Rob, a former motor mechanic from Easter Compton, has lived at Riversway Nursing Home since 2008. He has two children, Tom, 18 and Harry, 16.

Selena has been busy raising funds since November last year, through events including table top sales, cake sales and raffles. So far she has raised £7000 of her target of £7,500.

In September Selena headed toTanzania to begin her 10 day challenge climbing the 5,895m peak.

Hammer Out is a charity which supports families from across the South West and West Midlands affected by a brain tumour, offering support and counselling.

Selena said: “Our family was devastated when Rob was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, and Hammer Out has offered us unfailing support through this difficult time.

“Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro was a huge personal challenge, but I hope that by raising funds for Hammer Out, the charity can continue its good work for families just like ours.”

Jan Wilkins, general manager at Riversway, said: “Selena has been a real tower of strength through this difficult time and her charity challenge is an incredible achievement.

“I would urge anyone who can help her to make a donation and help reach that target.”
