Springhill Care Group shines with Platinum award

on .

Springhill Care Group has been awarded the prestigious Platinum award from Investors in People – the highest accolade that can be achieved through the scheme held by only two per cent of all organisations which have been assessed.

Assessors highlighted the ‘high performing’ Springhill Care Group for how it has further strengthened its organisation since it was awarded a Gold standard three years ago to join only two per cent of IIP accredited clients to achieve Platinum.

The IIP report said: “Evidence was presented of significant development in its approach to innovation and continuous improvement. The working environment developed as a result of the effective leadership approach has been fundamental to the creating of a high-performance organisational culture.

“Both managers and staff across all three nursing and care homes within Springhill Care Group described how they experience very effective leadership through a very inclusive and collaborative leadership style. People described how everything they do and the way they do things is driven by the company values. This starts with values-based recruitment.”

Built on the three pillars of leading, supporting and improving, the IIP framework sets out what it takes to deliver a people management system that enables organisations to succeed by realising the potential of their people.

Donna Briggs, managing director of Springhill Care Group, said: “This is great news for all staff because they help to make us the organisation we are. I’d like to thank our staff team for creating the culture of excellence we have which ultimately ensures that the quality of care for our residents is second-to-none.”

Chris Jones, Director of Operations at Investors In People, said: “Platinum is our highest award and recognises high performance achieved through integrated people practices. Springhill Care Group first achieved Investors in People in 1995 and since then we have seen the group go from strength to strength.”

As part of the IIP online assessment process, the care group exceeded both the IIP average and care sector benchmarks with an organisational benchmark score of 799 out of 900 where care sector average is 765 and overall IIP average is 724.

Assessors added that on-site evidence presented was found to fully validate the online results of the IIP survey amongst all staff and was “a very strong performance against an internationally recognised business transformation framework.

The assessors cited examples such as the Admiral Nursing Programme offering guidance in dementia care and programmes developed in the Assistant Nursing Practitioner and Teaching Homes programmes.

Frank shares his hobby with us at Springhill Care Home

on .

Recently Frank, one of our gentlemen who lives at Springhill Care Home in Accrington proudly shared pictures he’s been working on and adding to his own art portfolio.

Frank told the team that “until he came to Springhill Care Home he had never been interested in colouring, but now he loves it”.

Frank joins in with all the arts and craft activities at Springhill Care Home as well as spending time alone to build up his portfolio.

Colouring can be very relaxing and therapeutic and it is also a “Being Mindful” activity which can be categorised as “Awareness” which is one of the five ways to personal wellbeing (see below).

Five ways to personal Wellbeing; (NHS Website)

1. Connect - connect with the people around you: your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. Spend time developing these relationships.

2. Be active - you don't have to go to the gym. Take a walk, go cycling or play a game of football. Find an activity that you enjoy and make it a part of your life.

3. Keep learning - learning new skills can give you a sense of achievement and a new confidence. So why not sign up for that cooking course, start learning to play a musical instrument, or figure out how to fix your bike?

4. Give to others - even the smallest act can count, whether it's a smile, a thank you or a kind word. Larger acts, such as volunteering at your local community centre, can improve your mental wellbeing and help you build new social networks.

5. Be Mindful - be more aware of the present moment, including your thoughts and feelings, your body and the world around you. Some people call this awareness "mindfulness". It can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.

On Saturday 8th June resident's and the staff team at Riversway Nursing Home in Bristol celebrated the Queen’s official birthday.

A life size cut out of the Queen visited the home and they sampled lots of yummy cakes whilst listening to a variety of music.

The lounge was decorated with red, white and blue bunting and pretty flower pots to get everyone in the party mood.

Everyone said that they'd had a lovely time celebrating the Queen’s official Birthday.

All aboard to Blackpool Zoo

on .

Last week a small group of explorers from Springhill Care Home set off to explore the popular animal exhibits at Blackpool Zoo.

Visiting a zoo is a great experience and day out for everyone, and it can be very entertaining.  It certainly enhanced our resident’s knowledge about all the zoo animals and their rare species.

They particularly loved seeing the Gorilla Mountain exhibit - they got to see the big western lowland gorillas including Bukavu, a silverback and Milliki and her babies Meisie, Makari, Njema and Moanda.

Our ladies & gentlemen, and staff team shared a lovely picnic and enjoyed ice creams in sunshine with the bird life all around them.  Andy named two of the birds Trevor and Derek!

They then took a small detour on the way home and enjoyed a trip down the famous Blackpool promenade which bought back wonderful memories for everyone.

A fabulous day was had by all and everyone cannot wait for their next outing!

Birch Green Care Home's Golden moment winner

on .

Last week our quarterly Golden Moment at Birch Green Care Home in Skelmersdale was awarded to Gill Seddon, Lifestyle Support Leader who recently went above and beyond to support a resident through a very difficult and sad time.

After the unexpected loss of her son, Gill comforted and supported a resident at Birch Green to help her with the trying time ahead.

After helping with the funeral arrangements, which were difficult due to the distance involved, Gill was able to set up a video link so the resident could be a part of her son’s funeral on the day.

The following week Gill along with Ali, Financial Administrator travelled down to Wolverhampton to collect the precious ashes of the lady’s son and bring him home, back to his mum.

Birch Green then held a lovely remembrance service in the remembrance garden with the help of Rick the local Minister from the Ecumenical Centre.

After the remembrance service our special lady was surrounded by all her Birch Green Care Home family as they held a special luncheon to pay their respects and to support her.

Thank you Gill for going above and beyond, your caring nature is one for us all to behold.

Gill is photographed receiving her certificate from Donna Briggs, Managing Director.
