Lorraine - Riversway’s Caring Hero

For November, Riversway Nursing Home has nominated staff member Lorraine as its Caring Hero.

Lorraine is a great team member, always ready to help others and constantly giving 100 per cent. For example, her commitment to our resident Bob really shone through recently when she attended a long hospital appointment with him, always thinking about the best person-centred solutions to any issues.

Lorraine is a valued member of the Riversway team and we can’t thank her enough for her hard work. She truly is a Caring Hero.

October’s Caring Heroes revealed

Riversway’s Caring Heroes for October are a special volunteer, Ian, and our resident Joan.

Ian visits Riversway at least twice a week and sometimes even at the weekend to help anyone who needs it.

Ian assists caregivers and especially the activities team. During his one-to-ones, which he has just recently started to take part in, residents have found in him a dear friend and companion.

He also attends and helps deliver our Forget Me Not Café, a crucial meeting point for families. His work is very precious to us.

Joan recently helped in an emergency situation to be a wonderful ‘guardian angel’ for another resident sitting next to her.

Joan realised that something wasn't right and alerted the staff team. Her action that she thought was the most natural thing to do – helping someone – is being highlighted because it made a huge difference.

Sometimes even the little things can save a life.

Congratulations to both Ian and Joan.

Bernie and Freya are Caring Heroes

This month we’re highlighting the work of Bernie and Freya at Riversway Nursing Home as we pick our Caring Heroes.

Bernie has proven over many years of experience how to be both efficient in completing tasks while simultaneously showing empathy, initiative and always finding time for the residents.

Through her friendly personality and self confidence she radiates a sense of calm, trust and safety. Bernie is a talented carer who delivers care at consistently high standards.

Freya, meanwhile, is a young carer who has given her all every step of the way.

We believe that it’s important for the people we care for to see who we are, what our passions and hobbies are, listen to our jokes and know about our families or studies.

For Freya, her passion is music and her skills are singing and playing the piano.

She has shown how caring for someone doesn’t always mean doing something for them, but doing it together. This might be through activities, setting a table together, assistance getting dressed, or something as simple as reading the newspaper together or making silly faces and laughing.

Thanks to both Bernie and Freya for their professionalism, spontaneity, enthusiasm, passion and hard work.

Angela is Birch Green’s caring hero

This month our staff member Angela has been nominated as Birch Green’s Caring Hero.

Angela has been nominated by family members, who commented that ‘anything they ask for has already been done.’

Angela is a great source of knowledge and her care for residents is second to none. Residents, staff and families respect her for her 24 years’ of nursing care at Birch Green.

Well done Angela, who receives her nomination as part of Springhill Care Group’s #caringheroes campaign to highlight the unsung heroes working in the care sector.

Lesley’s our caring hero

Springhill Care Group’s Caring Heroes campaign exists to shine a spotlight on great examples of care.

In the past we’ve highlighted the work of staff members who go above and beyond in their duties, but this month we’ve nominated Lesley Battle.

Lesley is a regular visitor to Springhill Care Home Accrington, visiting a friend.  During one of her visits she noticed that one of our ladies, Doris, was unable to have many visitors.

So Lesley took it upon herself to befriend Doris, visiting her regularly and bringing small gifts. Recently she dropped by and brought a toiletry set and flowers.

This shows such a kind heart that we felt it only right to let everyone know what Lesley has been doing.

We’d like to thank Lesley and let her know she’s one of our #caringheroes
