It’s sheer poetry

Residents and their families relived happy memories at Birch Green Care Home, Skelmersdale, recently during a special poetry day event.

Staff also got into the spirit of the occasion with poetry readings including Catherine Shawarby, manager of the home, who read Jenny Joseph’s ‘When I am an Old Woman, I shall wear Purple.’

The audience enjoyed sherry while listening to Bernie Forshaw, Birch Green activities assistant, who was joined by resident Bill Wright, to read Daffodils by William Wordsworth (pictured). Bill explained he had chosen the poem as it reminded him of school.

Emma Thomas, on work experience from West Lancs College (also pictured), also joined in the fun, helping organise the activity and afternoon tea, and reading a poem herself.

Catherine Shawarby, general manager, said: “The day was a great success with staff, families and residents all getting involved in the activity.”
