Love makes the world of Birch Green go around!

Clocking up a staggering 165 years of marriage between them, these four couples could no doubt  teach the likes of Tiger Woods and Ashley Cole a thing or two about relationships!

To celebrate St Valentine's Day at Birch Green Care Home, Skelmersdale, staff organised a special celebration dinner for the elderly lovebirds.

Romance filled the air as residents, who have been separated by their spouses because they needed  full time professional  care, were joined by their loving spouses for a three course dinner followed by cocktails.

Resident Josephine Newal and her husband Eric, who doesn't live at the home but visits  every day, shared the secrets of their 63 year long marriage with the other couples.

Resident Stan Fishwick and wife Ann, also a  non resident but frequent visitor, have been married 50 years.

Resident John Cannon and  his visiting wife Freda,  have been married 32 years.

Resident Hilary Nelson and her visiting  husband Charlie, have been married 20 years.

Romantic crooners Frank Sinatra, dean Martin and Nat King Cole provided the background music as the couples tucked into soup, salmon and broccoli quiche and strawberry gateau in a dining room decorated with red hearts.

As Ann Fishwick said simply: "It was a day to remember!"

Registered Manager Catherine Shawarby added: “It was a wonderful occasion for everyone concerned."

"In this day and age,  such long, happy marriages are indeed rare. It was lovely to get the couples together for something so special. Living apart cannot be easy for any of them and we do our best to compensate whenever we can."
